Living and sharing our lives with our pets should be mutually beneficial and enjoyable and it's never too soon or too late to learn more in order to understand one another and enjoy life together.
Behaviour Consultations
Only the most up to date, kind and effective methods are used to help treat the causes of common behaviour problems with pets. These frustrating, upsetting problems can often be easily managed, resolved and avoided given the right information so no one need think they just have to live with unacceptable behaviour from their pet. However, many problems often worsen over time so it is important to seek help as early as possible. If you are experiencing a behaviour problem with your pet, please email or telephone to discuss your individual situation. The number of sessions required depends on the severity of the problem and sometimes it is necessary for your pet to have a health check with your vet to eliminate the behaviour being medically related.
One to One Training
All dogs and owners have different priorities and for some a structured course in a class environment isn't appropriate. Personal training is tailor made to suit individuals and help them achieve their own specific goals. It is also ideal for families to fast track their puppy's training, helping a rescue dog settle into a new home and for dogs which may not be suited to a join a class.
Courses and Classes
All classes are fun, informal and enjoyable and the teaching kind, fair and effective. Daytime and evening classes are held at Fraser Hall, Cowan Bridge near Kirkby Lonsdale; the venue has indoor and outdoor facilities. Training sessions are also held in the fields of the Westmorland Veterinary practice, this offers real life training surrounded by smells of rabbits and sheep. The fields allow lots of space for obstacle courses, fun agility and training with games helping to improve outdoor control.
Puppy Parties
Held at the Westmorland Veterinary Group practice in Kendal. An evening for very young puppies to learn social and life skills through supervised play.
Puppy Classes
The puppy course offers a sensible combination of gentle training and controlled play. Classes are 1 hour long and run once a week over a 6 week period, classes are limited to six puppies to give each puppy personalised attention and to ensure no puppy finds the experience too overwhelming. The course covers all the basic training you will need to give your puppy a good start in life. This includes encouraging good manners, walking nicely on the lead, coming when called, sit, down and stand positions, leave and wait commands and lots, lots more. Happy puppies are the priority so the classes are fun and learning is in a relaxed atmosphere. All members of the family are welcome to attend, puppies that don't live with children positively benefit from well behaved children being at class.
Junior Dog Classes
Although the course is designed to follow on from the Puppy Class it is suitable for young dogs coming to training for the first time. The aim of this course is to help you and your dog through the adolescent stage when sometimes your dog seems less biddable and less communicative - much like teenagers of another species we all know and love!
Adult Dog Classes
Suitable for dogs of any age. The course varies depending on the needs of each individual group and the time of year. This includes social activities to enhance life skills and encourage a good relationship between owner and their dog.
Throughout the year weekend workshops are held concentrating on specific skills such as Loose Lead Walking and Recall. Short 4 week Fun Courses run regularly in the summer time. Periodically celebrity speakers are invited to give behaviour seminars.
